Earth To Skype, Hello??? Can't Hear Call In Skype?

Recently I cannot hear my calls on Skype. Happened twice in different situations. My friend can't hear me in one call, and the other call was that I can't hear my friend. Luckily, I was able to fix both situations through the Skype settings itself and not reinstalling my drivers or any other ways. So here's what I did :

Time After Time? Facebook Not Loading?

2 days ago I tried logging in from my old laptop, which is about, 8 years old? I haven't tried using it for 6++ months, and I finally awaken the old dinosaur back to life. The thing is, when you leave a computer in a state of hibernation for so long, the components start to degrade -especially the clock battery.

Solution : Switching User Without Disconnecting Internet

Thanks to Andrew for this post. Downloading stuffs from the internet, and you thought it would be safe to change to another user. Upon returning to that user (that’s downloading stuffs), you realised the connection was cut during the switch.

Too bad, it’s too late, but you can fix that. What you need to do is do a bit of tweaking with your registry and you’ll be able to switch without disconnecting. Obviously, the first steps would be:

Download & Convert Videos Online

  • Download videos from any websites, like Youtube or Metacafe whatever, as long as it has videos in it!
  • Convert into wide variety of video formats, like MP4, MP3, WMV, AVI, AAC and so on.

  • Fast.....my download speed for a single file is 1 min using this service, what's yours?

So, all you need to type & click is :

  1. Go to www.clipconverter.cc , here
  2. Copy paste link into 'Media URL'

Solution : Ways To Download Videos WITHOUT Any Programs

Howdy folks. Another requested solution for a friend of mine, Miss 'S.L.' :P . In many other posts I've seen, people wrote about PROGRAMS that can download videos from video-hosting sites like YouTube etc etc. So, I try to turn things around by suggesting to you all to download videos WITHOUT any programs.

In my opinion, programs increase clutters of files on computers and risks of getting spywares or viruses. Programs also have to be started in order to download videos from sites.

Pointing out some advantages of program-free downloading, it's because :
  • No settings to check in programs,
  • Saves space on your comp,
  • No software downloads needed, just bookmarking (you'll see what I mean),
  • & Simple (well, almost all of them)

Not to delay any more, here are the few ways of program-free video downloading :

  • As easy as 'copy + paste'. Copy your video link in the address bar. Then, paste into one of these sites, keepvid.com, gazzump.com or vixy.net . I would recommend vixy.net or gazzump.com 'cause it offers conversion to other video formats.

  • Give to receive (videos of course). Just add these words 'kiss', 'pwn' or 'kick' (without the '') into 'www.[here]youtube.com/wateveryourewatching' in the address bar of the video & hit 'Enter'.

  • DIY steps for geeks. Did you know rendered videos stays on your comp? That's why online videos that has been fully rendered can still be played in your browser offline. This'll be pretty tough, but easy too if you just take your time. Here it goes... :
  1. Make sure 'hidden files & folders' is unticked
  2. Open & Play the video in your browser (UNTIL THE VIDEO IS FULLY RENDERED)
  3. My Computer > Local Disk (C:) > *USERNAME* > Local Settings > Temp
  4. Make a shortcut to the 'Temp' folder & put on your desktop
  5. In 'Temp' folder, find files starts with 'fla' (ex: fla7D.tmp)
  6. Copy the last 'fla' file ('cause it's the last video you played) to desktop
  7. Rename 'fla' file you COPIED to DESKTOP (ex: fla7D.tmp -> name.flv) ...& done!

MiniTips : A Secure Search Engine Site For You

Did you notice? Google now also has it's own secure search engine website now. But I still wouldn't recommend it, since people worried about most is Google itself collecting our data. So having a secure Google search site with Google itself as the person we're scared the most, what's the point then?

Google secure site                            Ixquick privacy-protected site

Enter the websites through the 'proxy' button to use the feature

There is, however, another search engine that keeps your privacy, called Ixquick @ Ixquick.com . This site was awarded as one of the most secured website. Why? That's because unlike other sites, Ixquick don't keep your search history, they delete it. And besides that, they combine the searches on every search engine, Yahoo, Google, Bing, Astalavista, etc...

Recently, Ixquick added a new proxy service, which allows you to stay hidden all the way till you reach other websites, after leaving Ixquick. So, my conclusion is that Ixquick, is still a site that can be put on a trust more than Google's secure search site. If you have the chance, start using Ixquick now.

Organize Inbox (or Facebook) E-mails Into Different Folders... Automatically

Having problem with your inbox that's accumulating e-mails equivalent to Mount. Everest already? And now you're trying to figure out how to manage them. 2 thoughts always comes to mind to an average e-mail user : Do I constantly check my e-mails so I can mark them "Read"? or so that I can avoid unnecessary e-mails by deleting them? I say, is it too much to ask for both? Plus another feature, which is sorting them into folders, AND doing ALL this automatically? Is that hard? I think not.

In Hotmail, or now called Windows Live Mail, there is are options which most users have never thought of before : 1. Sorting all your e-mails into different folders... 2. Automatically.

Step 1                                 Step 2

Step 3                                      Step 4

Step 5                                         Step 6

Ctrl + Click To Enlarge Pic In New Window

The steps are simple (if not so, the purpose of this blog would've been gone) :

  1. Sign in to your Hotmail (make sure to click SSL on the bottom left to avoid spam)
  2. Click "Options" > "More Options"
  3. Under "Customize your e-mail", choose "Automatically sort e-mail into folders"
  4. Click "New Filter"
  5. Choose where in the e-mail you want to categorize accordingly into the folder. Ex: categorize sk&83njks@facebookmail.com into a "Facebook" folder, so what you do is select "From address" and type "facebookmail.com" in the empty space for you to type on the right. (you should be able to understand the other options like "From name" "Subject"...)
  6. Scroll down > choose "New Folder" & type name of the folder > "Save"...& done! (or choose "Delete these messages" if you never want to see them again)
You should see a new filter for what you have choosen, and on your Hotmail main page, you will now see the new folders you have created below "Inbox".

If you just want to sort your current inbox mails into folders for now, you can create the folders first like this :
  1. In the left panel where the "Inbox" word is, scroll down and click "Manage Folders"
  2. In "Manage Folders", the buttons "New", "Create", "Delete" are on the top > "Save"
  3. After saving, you can just drag the e-mails in "Inbox" to the folders you want to put in on the left.

See All Your Fb Contacts In One Place

What? Are you tired of having to go to the "Home" page of Facebook to see other people's update? Or you only want to see certain people of your liking's update? Here, I'm going to introduce you an extension that integrates Facebook with your browser. Notice : this is available for Google Chrome only, so if you want to continue as additional reading, it's OK.

  • Seeing your friends updates in one place, without leaving your current tab. All you need to do to see your friends updates is just one click away. That is, the "Fb mural" icon on the top right of your Chrome browser.
  • Choose only certain people you want to see updates from, and never again have to check by having to click and find their profiles all over the place. Just choose from the "Add Friends to the Mural" and see your friends updates on the mural by just clicking on them.
  • Reply to all your friends in the same spot. See them, comment them, that's how America did it, and it pretty worked out well so far. Just kidding, took this out of Iron Man's saying on his "Jericho" weapon. The extension offers both "Like" AND "Comment" on each of the updates.

Steps :
  1. Go to Google Chrome's extension collection website
  2. Install it (tutorials will be given after install) ...& done!

Benefits Of Restarting Your Computer

Lot's of people are wondering  - what do you get from restarting your PC? There are lots of obvious reasons here, and it was part of my Mini-Tips. So here I am, explaining. These reasons are fundamentally, theoratically sound reasons.

  • Remove minor pc errors. Sometimes while you're running your comp you see some anomalies like maybe volume doesn't run, strange / jumbled language on your screen. It might have been triggered by inappropriate starting of some services / programs. Restarting would shut them down and start it again with better chance of working properly.

  • Recover from hang. Of course you restart when your PC hangs. But don't switch it off from the main switch, restart by pressing the power button till it restarts. "Hang"ing might be caused by overloading of the processor from you keep switching between programs.

  • Improve internet connection. Seems to work for me. That's why I always shut down when i'm finished or when my internet is really lagging. After a long time of using the computer, the fan can no longer cool the CPU fast enough. Result? Processors can't work properly because it's in a melting state already XD.

  • Apply changes after installing programs. After you installed programs, they need to add some things to your PC services and registry. Some program features require things from your computer to run together when they (programs) are started.

And... that's all.

UPDATE(S):

  • If you're wondering why your browser is just not showing website correctly, try reading this post. TQ.

MiniTips : Facebook Pic Spam!! Status: Annoyed...

Spam, spam, spam...

Yes, I've been seeing people receiving spam in their fb's, but not me :). The most common and heard about is the "Sims" spam. Currently it works by tagging people in the Sims pic.

If the tagged person opens the link commented in the pic, it will only make things worse. The pic will be sent under your name to people in your lists. W.C.S. : virus will enter your computer if you continue with whatever it tells you to do, etc: install this, visit that. All you NEED to do is :

  • Simple, DON'T CLICK THE LINK!!
  • DELETE THE PICTURE(S)!!
  • Inform others of these actions, mainly to the person who send you this, because that person is already a victim of clicking the link

"Dude, I Got Cooliris." "Cool..."

Ever heard of Cooliris? No? Then you better see one for yourself. Cooliris is an application, more of an extension, where you can browse all photos & videos under 1 roof. By doing this, the company had made everything simple as to just dragging the screen left & right to see the pics & vids. Very Neat. So, for:

  • Picture/Album viewers, like "Facebook"ers "Google Search"ers, when you view the images, it'll all be on the wall, kind of like a painting museum, except that everything you're looking at is what you're searching for. "Cool" eh? So imagine you're in a Facebook album, you have to click 1 by 1 to enlarge, and click "next page" to view the rest of the photos. In Cooliris, the whole album is on the wall, all you have to do is scroll around, or drag around. *You can also use it as an app in your Facebook and other supported sites.

  • Daily uses. Searching your computer four your pics & vids? No problem, made convinient (and cooler) by Cooliris. the extension allows you to search your computer for pictures without having to open many folders, navigating with ease as if you are just flipping through your photo album.
Steps :
  1. Go to their website
  2. Click on their "Download" button and follow their instructions
So, for navigators out there, get your new tool in sightseeing now!

UPDATE(S) :

  • To open a picture in Cooliris, hover your mouse over the pic, then click the small cooliris icon on the bottom left. To see all the pics in a Facebook album, you have to be in the album first.

Voted #3 : Increasing Your WiFi Receiving Coverage (& Maybe Speed Too)

This tip might be proved to be not so effective, because I can't really test it's potential (hey, i'm being honest right?), but you should still consider this because I still think it would help in some way. What we are going to do here is that we're going to try and strengthen the wireless wave that you are receiving and how much packets of data you receive from them each time.

Step 1                        Step 2

Step 3                      Step 4

Steps :

  1. 'Open Start Menu' > 'Connect To' > 'Show all connections'
  2. Right click on the wireless connection you're using and choose 'Properties'
  3. Click 'Configure' to change settings in your wireless device
  4. On the list of items on the middle left, choose 'Roaming Aggressiveness' and 'Throughput Enhancement'
  5. Uncheck 'Use default value' and set both to high, then save all ...& done!
*Note : The wireless device I am setting is an Intel device, interface may vary for other company's devices.

If you have heard of WiMAX already, you should try it out, but it's limited to certain areas only. It's full name is 'Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access'. You can know more about it here at their website or Wikipedia.

UPDATE

  • Go to Intel website here for more details (again)

MiniTips : Easy Download Pictures

If I guessed correctly, most users download pictures on the internet through right click > 'Save Image As'. The alternative and the easiest way is just simply by dragging the picture from the browser right away to your desktop or folder.

Literally just drag picture out to your desktop

Messenger Plus! Live (One Heck Of An Extension)

Am I exaggerating? I'm not sure. That'll depend on you. I got scolded by my friends while I was using one of it's scripts on them for fun. I was just TEASING, YOU HEAR THAT "FRIENDS"?! This extension for Windows Live Messenger is used for extra customizing on the program itself, giving itself more features than the original self.

The main thing I posted this is because this is needed for the implementation of the anti-virus script that i stated here, Blocking Messenger Spams (SPIM). Messenger Plus! Live works by putting scripts into your Live Messenger, giving you access to more features like unlimited nudges (I've never grown tired of that) and customizing the font and colour of your words and background colour.

Windows Plus! Live website
Advantages :
  • More features for you, allowing you to customize more in Live Messenger
  • Extra protection, if you do use the script i stated in the link above
  • This extra feature called 'lock mode', can hide all your messages and disguise the messenger icon in the taskbar with something normal (or dull) to prevent other people from opening it up (useful in offices)
Steps :
  1. Download latest version from main website
  2. Install it
  3. Get the all the scripts you want from the same website, then import it using the Messenger Plus! Live ...& done!
I'm not going to suggest any scripts for your Messenger, just the anti-virus script, because I don't want you coming here and blame me for anything you've done to piss off your friend(s).

Blocking Messenger Spams (SPIM)

Annoyed with messenger spams? Hate having to tell your friends through personal message that it was spam and wasn't you? Seeing popups on your computer with the anti-virus telling you it's from the internet? If you are (I hope you are), then this should help you. Through some websites (*whew*) I have found some info on how to prevent it.

  Steps For Messenger :
  • Sue the guy with a good lawyer (Just kidding)
  • Close the message and NEVER click on it, don't even type it in your browser
  • Change your password every time you receive one
  • make sure you click 'Use enhanced security when you login just below the password entry or always use this link. Just make sure there's an 's' in 'http' in the web address
  • Use this script at WLM and install into your messenger (program is needed to install this)
  • Always sign out your messenger and e-mail account properly before closing them

Messenger.exe under Services
Steps To Do In Computer :
  1.  'Start' > 'Settings' > 'Control Panel' > 'Performance & Maintenance' > 'Administrative Tools' (the P & M only applies if you are using 'Category View')
  2. Services > find and double click 'Messenger'
  3. Change 'Startup type' to 'Disabled', stop the service too if it's running...& done! (This won't affect your Live Messenger at all because this has nothing to do with your program)

These steps will prevent your computer from sending spams to other people and with luck, people to yours. The details I obtained are from these websites , Messenger and a random web. If you don't prevent these things, they might do some damage by sending trojans to your computer. Do you want to take the chance?

Prevent Your Site Being Listed On Search Engines (For Privacy Reasons)

Some people just want their sites to be their own journal or diaries, no peeking from other users. Whereas some wants to share their 'world' with the real world. Actually, that was what blogspot was made for. Anyway, here I will show you all how to prevent your site from being listed on search engines.

Advantage :
  • I already stated it above.
Steps :
  1. Edit your site's html
  2. Insert this (replace ^^ with <>) ^meta content="noindex" name="robots"^ or this ^meta content="noindex" name="googlebot"^ (if you want to block google only, not sure for others) after the '' section
  3. Save ...& done!
For websites like blogspot users, very simple, don't have to follow above instructions above. (Bet you already read it, right?)

Blogspot settings
Steps :
  1. Dashboard > Settings > Basic
  2. Search for "Let search engines find your blog?", then click no
  3. Save ...& done!

There's still a catch here, even if you're not listed on search engines anymore, people still can access your websites through direct links, as in type your site's address in the address bar. Go here for further details.
