Microsoft Office 2007 Useful Keyboard Shortcuts

Microsoft Office 2007 sure has step up a notch from it's earlier brother. There's even an Office 2010 coming. Everything now seems to be on top of the workspace, and they called this a 'ribbon'. If you ask me I still cannot guess why, tell me if you know. OK, so it's like this : the buttons everywhere on top, looks great but to some it looks messy. You have to move your mouse to the left and to the right (sound familiar?). And so, with keyboard shortcuts, you don't have to, just your fingers anyway.

  •   The power of 'Alt'imate. Press 'Alt' and you'll see alphabets showing from all the buttons. Then all you have to do to access them is just press the correspondent alphabet on your keyboard. This function covers almost all the buttons that are available there, that's why it's 'Alt'imate. Oh, and the people at Microsoft call this function 'Key Tips', using the technology of Microsoft Active Asseccesibility (MSAA).

  •   Moving around the 'Ribbon' area with arrows/'Tab' key. After you have entered command mode by pressing 'Alt', you can also navigate around the ribbon and the Office menu using arrow keys, much more convenient than the previous Microsoft Office version. The 'Tab' key can also replace the arrows keys. Pressing it would also allow you to move around the 'Ribbon', whereas pressing 'Shift'+'Tab' would go in a reverse direction.

  •   Access places around you with F6. especially the toolbar below you. It's another function for you to move around, but this one is for between toolbars only, to go into the details you have to switch back to using arrows again.

  •    Your old friend, Mr. 'Ctrl'. This is still one of the fastest way to go to a single detail like Copy, Paste, Bolding, Italic, Cut and so on. Link for key combinations of 'Ctrl' can be found under this post.

Note : if you used the 'Alt' and end up in a wrong tab, press 'Esc' and you can view the tabs access key again.

Any other additional shortcuts that you think useful can be added by commenting in this post. For training of this by Microsoft, you can go to Microsoft Office Training, or for all the key combinations, here.
